In 2010, the UN General Assembly announced 2011–2020 to be a UN Decade of Action for Road Safety. The objective is to highlight road safety issues globally and to mobilise road safety partners around the world to step up their efforts. The EU supports this UN initiative, among other things by taking part in the third UN Global Road Safety Week, 4-10 May 2015.
